What Is an MRI?
An MRI is a diagnostic tool designed to explore and photograph the insides of living organisms and other solid structures. It is entirely non-invasive and does no harm to the organism scanned. How Does an MRI Work?
The patient is carefully cleared of all ferrous material and placed in a comfortable position next to the machine. The machine is then activated, which causes it to expend electrical current to act as a giant electromagnet.

This causes a phenomenon known as "polarization," aligning the orbiting electrons of the body's atoms into orbits parallel with the lines of magnetic force. Simple magnetic pulses will then cause the ions of the body to essentially "ring" like a bell, and the MRI captures these vibrations as they travel through different body structures of different composition and density.
These astonishingly precise measurements are then translated into a detailed visualization that can be interpreted by professionals.
